يسهل على المراقب ملاحظة انتشار وسائل إعلامية عربية مختلفة، مقروءة ومسموعة ومرئية في بريطانيا، فهناك الفضائيات التلفزيونية التي يشاهدها ملايين المشاهدين العرب في كافة أنحاء العالم، وهناك الصحف والمجلات العربية التي تمتلئ بها شوارع المدن البريطانية ويترقب صدورها القارئ العربي في كل مكان في العالم أيضاً. كما أنها توظف مئات العاملين من العرب وغيرهم داخل بريطانيا وخارجها، فهناك مثلاً، حوالي خمسة عشر مكتباً لصحيفة الحياة" وفيها عدد من العاملين يبلغ زهاء 265 فرداً بين مراسل وكاتب وفني طباعة وموظف، ولصحيفة "الشرق الأوسط" العدد ذاته من المكاتب، وتطبع الصحيفة في اثني عشر موقعاً مختلفة من عواصم متعددة في أنحاء العالم.
وسوف تحاول هذه الورقة التي تضم خلاصة المحاضرة التي عقدت يوم الأحد الموافق في 29 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 1998 التطرق بشيء من العلمية إلى وصف ظاهرة الإعلام العربي في المملكة المتحدة وفي عاصمتها لندن بشكل خاص، حيث تقوم معظم وسائل الإعلام المسموعة والمرئية والمقروءة وغيرها، كما وستطرح هذه الورقة الأسباب التي أوجدت ظاهرة "إعلام المهجر"، وأسباب تركزه في لندن دون غيرها، في محاولة لتحديد أسباب نجاح بعض الظواهر الإعلامية العربية الموجودة في لندن وإخفاقها بعضها الآخر، ما وستحاول هذه الورقة استقراء مستقبل تلك الأدوات الإعلامية المختلفة وإمكانية استمرار هذه الظاهرة أو انتشارها مستقبلاً، وخاصة في ظل ثورة عارمة من التحولات في عالم المعلومات والباحث هنا يعتمد في مصادره لكتابة هذه الورقة بشكل أساسي على تجربته الشخصية، ومعرفته المباشرة بالقائمين على معظم تلك المؤسسات الإعلامية من جهة، وعلى متابعة لكثير مما ينشر ويذاع في بريطانيا من وسائل مختلفة للإعلام العربي وغير العربي من جهة أخرى. كما أن الكاتب هنا يعبر عن رأيه الخاص بشكل علمي وموضوعى ما أمكنه ذلك، محاولاً أن يرصد هذه الظاهرة التي تستحق الرصد.
