يشتمل المعجم علي مطبوعات نشرت منذ أن دخل البرتغاليون "Portugueses" في جنوب الهند بمدينة كوا "Goa" ونواحيها عام 1550 ميلادي حيث اقاموا مطبعة بدائية لكني لم اعرف او لم استطع ان اعرف أي كتاب مطبوع باللغة العربية في هذه الحقبة من الزمن حتي ان شركة الهند الشرقية "East India Company" تسربت في الهند نحو عام 1700 الميلادي وأقامت مطبعة قرب بنغالة وشرعت تنشر كُتباً بلغة انجليزية اولاً وبعدها بلغات محلية منها البنغالية والفارسية والعربية وذلك في نهاية القرن الثامن عشر الميلادي وبداية القرن الثالث عشر الهجري وهي مئة عام قبل دخول المطبعة في مصر.
حاولت ان أسجل في هذا المعجم كل كتاب طبع يُشبه القارة سواء ألف بالهند أو بخارجها وألفه عالم من علماء هذه البقعة او غيرهم وترون ان سهماً كبيراً فيه يشتمل علي تأليفات علماء العرب ولم ادخل فيها طبعات القرآن الكريم وتراجمه وتفاسيره باللغات الهندية سواء طبعت كاملاً او جزء منها غير أن القرآن الكريم الأول الذي اعتني به العلماء والمسلمون في جميع انحاء العالم ويعد رأس كل كتاب ومصدره وكل الكتب والمقالات التي كتبت باللغات غير العربية واشتملت علي أيات قرآنية ومقتبسات وجمل وأبيات عربية كثيرة لم أدونها في هذا المعجم لأنها لا تدخل في إطار عملنا.
