ففى قرن وبعض قرن، وثب المسلمون وثبة ملأوا بها الأرض قوة وبأساً، وحكمة وعلماً، ونوراً وهداية، فراضوا الأمم، وهاضوا الممالك، وركزوا ألويتهم فى قلب آسيا، وهامات أفريقية، وأطراف أوربة، وتركوا دينهم، وشرعتهم تدين لها القلوب. لقد قطع المسلمون تلك المرحلة التى لها الدهر، ووجم لروعتها التاريخ، وهم يعرفون معالم طريق المجد، ونهج السعادة فى الدارين، وأمعنوا بكل ثقة فى هذا السبيل مدفوعين بطاقة خارقة، وقوة دافعة، كانوا إذن يدركون بكل دقة معالم الطريق كأن معهم "خارطة" مفصلة أودعوها "قوتهم العلمية"، وكان الوقود الذى يتزودون به لبلوغ غاياتهم هو "القوة العملية"، ولا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله. فهذان هما سر عظمة المسلمين، وخيريتهم وتفوقهم على الأمم: "العلم" و "الإرادة".
