الكتاب يبحث في واحدة من (الشطحات) المسرحية التي قدمها كل من الشاعرين، والشطط الخيالي الذي صاحبهما في تجربتين مسرحيتين فريدتين قياساً على ما اعتاده الناس في أعمالهما، حيث خرجا عن المألوف في تقديم صورة المرأة، المألوف الذي تعودنا عليه في أعمالهما والمألوف في المرأة بوجه عام.
قدم شكسبير المرأة شرسة مستبدة متسلطة متمردة في مسرحية ترويض الشرسة، وقدمها شوقي بخيلة ضنينة ممسكة في مسرحية البخيلة، هذا بالإضافة إلى نماذج أخرى من المفارقات الأنثوية التي ظهرت في بعض أعمالهما الشعرية والمسرحية.
