لما كان فن الأدب، لب لباب لسان العرب، وكان من أسمى ما ألف فيه "مقصورة العلامة ابن دريد" فقد جمع فيها ما تفرق في شتى المعاجم من كل مقصور، وأبدع نظمها، وأحسن سبكها بكل مثل مأثور، حتى بدت طرفة فن الأدب، ونادرة المتندرين في نوادي العرب: تنافس في شرحها المتنافسون، وتبارى في حفظها المتسابقون، بيد أنها تداولت بشرح قل مبناه، وعزر معناه، لعلامة لغوي جليل، ترك فيه ما وضح معناه لديه، وأجمل ما سهل مبناه عليه.
والأدب العربي النفيس كالبساتين الفيحاء، والرياض الغناء، تقصد الرواد منها ما تفتح زهرها، وسهل جناها، وعذب مبتغاها.
لهذا عمدت إلى الإكمال، وبيان ما كان من إجمال، لأوفر على الأديب وقته النفيس، ولله وحده الكمال المطلق، لا رب سواه، ولا نقصد إلا إياه، إذا وفق هدى، وهو أعلم بمن اهتدى.
