رغم سيطرة الصين على تركستان لفترات طويلة إلا أن الثقافة الصينية لم تحكم قبضتها عليها. بل إن الشعب التركى فى تركستان الشرقية لا يكف عن الثورة، والمطالبة بالاستقلال، ولا يزال يحافظ على هويته الإسلامية.
ويعانى الشعب التركى فى تركستان الشرقية من احتلال صينى يستهدف طمس الهوية وإذابة التركستان ودمجها فى الصين للاستفادة من ثرواتها الاقتصادية الهائلة، والقضاء على كل محاولة للاستقلال وذلك من خلال أساليب متعددة منها:
-الاحتلال العسكرى وأساليبه القمعية.
-العيش فى وض اقتصادى مترد رغم ثراء تركستان الشرقية وثرواتها الهائلة.
-عمليات استيطان سكانى واسعة النطاق اللهان الصينيين فى بلاد التركستان.
إن قضية تركستان الشرقية ربما مثلت مستقبلاً نقطة خلاف بين الحضارتين الإسلامية والصينية المرشحتين فى بعض الدراسات للتحالف فى مواجهة الحضارة الغربية.
فهل تقبل الصين باستقلال تركستان الشرقية متنازلة بذلك عن الموقع الهام والثروات الهائلة.
