لا تدّعي هذه المقاربة أنها بحث علمي مستفيض يفي الموضوع حقه، بقدر ما هي إثارة لجوهر قضية الحضور المسيحي في المشرق العربيّ، وبخاصة الجوانب التي تبقى عادة طي الكتمان لإعتبارات ومصالح وقلق من تحريك المياه الراكدة، وبقدر ما هي دعوة لإشباع هذه المسائل بالتحديد درساً وتمحيصاً، وقد يستأهل كل من الفصول والعناوين الآتية كتاباً للإستفاضة في شرح المفاهيم وإستعراض الوقائع ودراسة الخلفيات وإستخراج الخلاصات.
ركّز هذا الكتاب على مسؤولية المسلمين تجاه قضية المسيحية في المشرق العربيّ لأنهم أكثرية ديموغرافية تمسك بمفاصل الحياة العامة كافة، ولأن المسيحيين في هذا الإطار قد فقدوا القدرة على المبادرة، ولهذا يتعيّن بالدرجة الأولى على النخب الإسلامية أن تقرر ما إذا كانت تريد بقاء المسيحيين إلى جانبهم في المنطقة التي تعايش فيها آباء وأجداد الطرفين طوال أربعة عشر قرناً أم ما إذا كان حان الوقت في نظرهم لإنهاء وجود المسيحيين.
ولكن إذا كان بقاء المسيحيين في الشرق العربي خياراً إسلامياً، فإن بقاء المسيحيين في لبنان خيار مسيحي، وهو خيار يفترض بهم أن يأخذوه سريعاً قبل أن يفوت الآوان، بالإشتراك مع أبناء بلدهم المسلمين إذا تجاوبوا مع تطلعاتهم ومتطلبات وجودهم الحر أو بمعزل عنهم إذا ما استمروا في المنحى السائد منذ عقدين من الزمن على الأقل.
