إن الحديث عن الفلسفة السياسية في أي عصر من العصور إنما الغاية منه الحديث عن الإنسان كإنسان، هذا الكائن الذي يتميز عن سائر المخلوقات بالعقل وينتج العقل المتامل نتاجاً على قدر كبير من الإتساق والإنسجام، نسميه فلسفة، وإذا ما تعلقت هذه الفلسفة بالكيان الإجتماعي كانت فلسفة سياسية، فالإنسان وثقافته غاية كل تفلسف.
إن دراستنا الموسومة بــ (الفلسفة السياسية، السؤال الفلسفي حول سبل العيش الفاضل - دراسة مقارنة بين فلسفة أفلاطون والقديس أوغسطين السياسية) يعد من الموضوعات المركبة إذ تناول شخصيتين تنتميان لعصرين مختلفين وهي محاولة منا لعرض وتحليل ومقارنة صيغتين من صيغ التفلسف في السياسية، صيغة اتخذت من العقل مصدراً رئيسياً من مصادر الوصول إلى السعادة البشرية وخلاصها كما هو عند أفلاطون وصيغة أخرى استمدت من الدين مبادئها وأصولها وأحكامها ونظامها السياسي وتقسيمها للدول والمدن للوصول إلى الحقيقة ومن ثم خلاص الإنسان وسعادته كما سنجدها عند القديس أوغسطين، فكلاهما يلتقيان عند غاية مشتركة، إنما هي سعادة الإنسان ولكن الوسيلة تبدو في ظاهرها مختلفة ولكن في الحقيقة قد اتخذا منهجاً متشابهاً للوصول إلى الغاية المنشودة عند كليهما.
ولكننا نجد بأن لا العقل ولا الدين لوحده يمكن أن يكون برنامجاً متكاملاً لبناء دولة وإدارتها إدارة سليمة، فلو افترضنا إن الإتجاه الأفلاطوني الفلسفي السياسي يماثله الإتجاه العلماني في حكم الدولة، وإن الإتجاه الأوغسطيني يماثل الإتجاهات الدينية في إدارة الدولة.
فالباحث يرى أنه لا ضير من تواجد أكثر من إتجاه في المجتمع، ويمكن التوافق حول الأساسيات والغايات الكبرى من أجل سعادة الإنسان وترك الخلاف حول الجزئيات مع التمسك بالحرية والعدالة التامة، وواقع مجتمعاتنا خير مثال على ذلك، فلا بد من الحوار بغية الوصول إلى هدف سامي هو الأمن والسلام والرفاهية للمواطن مع الإحتفاظ لكل الإتجاهات الدينية والفلسفية والسياسية بحقها في آيديولوجيتها في المجتمع في ظل الدولة.
