في كتابه (الإيمان مفتاح السعادة النفسية) يؤكد الدكتور "محمد عمر سالم" أستاذ الطب النفسي في جامعة الإمارات، أن الإيمان عنصر أساسي من عناصر الصحة النفسية، وعامل وقائي مهم ضد الإصابة بالمرض النفسي، وأن المؤمنين هم أقل عرضة للأمراض والمشاكل النفسية بكافة أنواعها.
وللتأكيد على صحة ما تقدم يبحث المؤلف في الكتب المشهورة في التراث الإسلامي ومنها حكم ابن عطاء الله السكندي التي رأى فيها أثراً عجيباً في تحريك القلوب وإيقاظ النفوس، وإثارة الهمم في الحث على السير إلى الله تعالى، ذلك أن الحكم العطائية هي من عيون النثر الديني، أغلبها جاء في صورة مخاطبات موجهة للمريد السالك، ويلحق بها "المناجاة" وهي عبارة عن أدعية وابتهالات تعد أيضاً من روائع الأدب الصوفي.
عن عمله في هذا الكتاب يتحدث الدكتور محمد عمر سالم في مقدمة الكتاب "بعد مراجعتي لبعض الشروح المتداولة لحكم ابن عطاء الله وجدت أن شرح ابن عجيبة الحسني والمسمى "إيقاظ الهمم في شرح الحكم" تميز يجميل عباراته مع جزالة أسلوبه ورقة معانيه، ولكن غلب عليه في كثير من المواطن الأساليب التي تعد من شطحات الصوفية، لذا عمدت إلى تهذيب ذلك الشرح مع الاستعانة بمراجع أخرى مناسبة (...) كما قمت بتجميع وترتيب الحكم في فصول حسب موضوعاتها (...) وقمت بتخريج الأحاديث النبوية قدر المستطاع..."
