أبو محمد عبد الملك ابن هشام بن أيوب الحميري، كاتب سير ومؤرخ بصري. كما كان عالماً بالأنساب واللغة وأخبار العرب. عاصر ابن هشام الشافعي والتقى به في مصر.
هذب السيرة النبوية ، وسمعها من زياد البكائي صاحب ابن إسحاق ، وخفف من أشعارها ، وروى فيها مواضع عن عبد الوارث بن سعيد ، وأبي عبيدة . رواها عنه محمد بن حسن القطان ، وعبد الرحيم بن عبد الله بن البرقي ، وأخوه أحمد بن البرقي . وله مصنف في أنساب حمير وملوك أبو محمد عبد الملك ابن هشام بن أيوب الحميري، كاتب سير ومؤرخ بصري. كما كان عالماً بالأنساب واللغة وأخبار العرب. عاصر ابن هشام الشافعي والتقى به في مصر.

والأصح أنه ذهلي كما ذكره أبو سعيد بن يونس ، وأرخ وفاته في ثالث عشر ربيع الآخر سنة ثمان عشرة ومائتين .

هــو مصنف (لغوي ) في حقل النحو من ابرز اسهامات الامام ابن هشام الأنصاري المصري عالم النحو الكبيـر المتوفيَ (761 هـ ) ، وهو مصنف فريد من نوعه ثري في مادته لا نظير له ، وهذا الكتاب هو بمثابة وااسطة العقد ما بين كل مصنفاته وقد سلك فيه نهجا مميزا حيث جمع الادوات والحروف مصنفة علي حروف المعجم وجمع شاردها وفصل قواعدها ، ثم عرّج علي الاحكام العامة للجمل واشباهها ، وما يتبَع ذلك من تقسيمات و تفريعات وتبين للقواعد الكلية للنحو والاخطاء التي يقع فيها المعربون ، وهو إلي جانب هذا كلــه غزير في شواهده القرأنية والشعــرية ، كما ضمّن في ثناياه اراء الكثيرين من النحاة والاعلام السابقين علي ابن هشام في كل مسألة. ومن الجدير بالذكر ان (المغني ) مصنف دسم ممعن في الدقائق والتفاصيل لا يلائم المبتدئين في النحو او المتوسطين إنما هو ملائمٌ لمن هم اعلي من المتوسطين بدرجة.
