ابتدأت معارك العرب التحريرية إثر انتهاء حروب الردة مع أقوى آلة عسكرية في عصرها مع الإمبراطورية الفارسية. و قد بدأت هذه المعارك في زمن الخليفة الأول أبي بكر الصديق رضي الله عنه الذي اختار لها ألمع قادة العرب وعلى رأسهم خالد بن الوليد. وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلف معلومات شاملة ودقيقة عن معارك خالد بن الوليد ضد الفرس معتمداً في ذلك على أنضج المصادر والمراجع حيث أعمل فيها مبضع الدرس والتحليل لا النقل والتجميع خصوصاً وأن هناك كتابات كثيرة قديمة وحديثة قد ظهرت لكنها كانت قاصرة الرؤية.
وكما يرى المؤلف فإن خالداتً كان قائداً فذاً وجندياً ممتازاً شديد الثقة بنفسه وبعمله وبكفاءته ومعاونيه وجنده.
يقدم المؤلف لكتابه بتمهيد يتحدث فيه عن حروب الردة وأثرها ف إعداد العرب للمعارك الفاصلة اللاحقة في تاريخهم، كما يتحدث عن خطة تحرير العراق ليعدد فيما بعد معارك خالد بن الوليد ضد الفرس. كما أنه يعرض لتلك المعارك ويقومها في ضوء مبادئ الحرب، قبل أن يختم الكتاب بالحديث عن نتائج هذه المعارك.
