ويقف العقاد في فصل "آداب حياة" عند الأقوال التي جاءت على لسان السيد المسيح في مجال التوصية والوعظ فلا يرى فيها ما ينكر أو يستغرب إذ الغرض الذي يرمي إليه المسيح منها تطهير النفس وتنزيهها أولاً حتى يبلغ التطهير أعمق أعماقها، واجتثاث ما تنطوي عليه من جذور الشر وبذور الفساد ثانياً.
ومما تناوله المؤلف بالتعليل تسمية المسيح بالمعلم، ومناداته بهذا اللقب سواء من قبل تلاميذه أو خصومه، أو من ليسوا تلاميذ له ولا خصوم، وقد حملهم على تلقيبه بهذا اللقب ما لمسوه في كلامه من علم واسع بالكتب والأسفار، وبديهة حاضرة في الإستشهاد بها وتوضيح مراميها.
وقد اشتمل الكتاب على أبحاث ومعلومات هي من الدقة والشمول بحيث قد تغني عن طلب المزيد من أي مصدر أو مرجع قديم أو حديث.
