تندرج ترجمة هذا الكتاب في إطار مجهود تطوير وتحديث مراجع علم النفس وبخاصة مراجع علم النفس، وبخاصة مراجع علم نفس الذاكرة الإنسانية؛ إذ أنه يستعرض الأبحاث والدراسات التي تناولت الذاكرة الإنسانية لأكثر من مئة عام، لكن عملية الترجمة إلى العربية في ميدان علم النفس عموماً وعلم نفس الذاكرة تحديداً تواجهها مشكلة عدم وجود مصطلحات علمية عربية مناسبة، وتعدد مقابلات نفس المصطلح إضافة إلى عدم دقة بعض المصطلحات، وهذا ينعكس سلباً على التواصل الفعال بين الباحثين في هذا الحقل العلمي.
وأحد العوائق الرئيسية أمام تطور علم النفس في العالم العربي يتجلى في قلة الإهتمام بالتعريب الدقيق والموحد لمصطلحات علم النفس، وقد أفضى هذا إلى فوضى في المصطلحات أثرت سلباً على نهضة علم النفس بالوطن العربي.
لذلك قمنا بجهد كبير في إنتقاء وإقتراح المقابلات المناسبة للمصطلحات العلمية الواردة في هذا الكتاب.
