في هذا الكتاب قصة شاب جاهلي كان أبوه يعده ليخلفه في زعامة قومه وقيادة قبيلته، ولكنه حاذ الله ورسوله وتطاول على مقام النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) مما جعل النبي (صلى الله عليه وسلم) يدعوا عليه قائلاً: (اللهم سلَط عليه كلباً من كلابك) فاغتاله الأسد وهو نائم وسط رفاقه. وحوله حراسة مشددة. إنهارت الآمال، وضاعت الأماني والأحلام وعاد الوالد منصدع القلب، مسلوب العقل حتى مات شرميته وأسوأها، وفي القصة إشقاطات وإيماءات تربوية ونفسية وفيها توجيه إلى التذكر والإعتبار.
كما تضمنت تطمين الفئة المؤمنة إلى أنها بعين الله تعالى، وتحذير الشاردين عن الجادة من سخط الله تعالى وسوء عقابه في الدنيا والآخرة.
