الطب الشرعي علم من علوم الطب يختص بتوظيف الخبرة الطبية لحل المشاكل ذات الصبغة الطبية المعروضة أمام جهات التحقيق والقضاء، ونعني بالمشاكل الطبية كل ما يعرض أمام القضاء من مسائل ومشكلات طبية في مجالات الطب المختلفة.
وللطب الشرعي شقان: الطب الشرعي الميداني والطب الشرعي الأكاديمي، ففي مصر مثلاً يمارس الشق الأول الأطباء الشرعيون ومعاونوهم التابعون لمصلحة الطب الشرعي بوزارة العدل وهم موجودون بفروع وأقسام المصلحة بالمحافظات، وكذلك الخبراء بالمعامل وأقسام أبحاث التزييف والتزوير التابعة لمصلحة الطب الشرعي.
أما الشق الثاني فتقوم به أقسام الطب الشرعي والسموم بكليات الطب المختلفة وتقوم هذه الأقسام بتدريس علم الطب الشرعي والسموم لطلبة السنة الرابعة بكليات الطب ولطلاب الدراسات العليا وبعمل الأبحاث العلمية والرسائل في هذا التخصص ومنح الدرجات العلمية.
ودراسة طلاب القانون وكذلك العلوم الأمنية للطب الشرعي لها أهمية كبيرة في مستقبلهم المهني... ذلك لأن كل واحد منهم سيحتاج في حياته اللاحقة إلى مساعدة الطب الشرعي في عمله اليومي، سواء أكان قاضياً أو محامياً، او نائباً عاماً، أو محققاً، أو باحثاً جنائياً، وذلك لأن الطبيب الشرعي هو الطبيب المختص الذي يستعان بمعلوماته وخبرته الطبية لخدمة العدالة عن طريق كشف غموض الجانب الطبي من القضايا المختلفة، التي تُعرض عليه من قبل القضاء.
وهذا ما دفع المؤلف لوضع هذا الكتاب لرجال الأمن والقانون.
