إني أمرت بشرح رسالة الوزيرابى الوليد بن زيدون الآتي ذكرها، وإيضاح براهينها الغامض علي كثير من سراة الادب سرها.
فقلت ما أنا ناو صعود هذا الصرح، وهل أنا لاصاحب أبيات تقيم جرها القريحة المطبوعه، وكلمات تأتي علي العفو فقرها المسجوعه، فمتي أخرجت عن ظل أبياتي ظلمت. ومتي أبعدت عن رياض سجعي ألمت. هذا مع تشعب فنون هذه الرسالة، وأحجام الفضلاء عن الخوض في غدرها السيالة، فقيل لي انا نقتصر من شرحك علي الاختصار ونهب تقصيرك لما قدمت بين يدي نجواك من الاعتذار ونرضي من بيانك بادني الحصص ومن قسمةا لايضاح ببعض الحصص ونقتنع من التاريخ الغاص ببعض الفرص واذا كنت من الشعراء فما انت ببعيد من القصص فقابلت بالطاعة أمراً قد وجب وقلت ان فاتني سلوك الآداب المنظومة فان الامتثال خير من سلوك الادب وكنت اعرف ببعض خزائن دمشق الوقفية أسفارا فيها للطالب منجع وللافهام النائية ذكري تنفع فلم يتهيأ أن أعار منها كتاباً ولا ارجع من السنة حروفها خطاباً فقلت هذا عذراً آخر لم يكن في الحساب وهذا قصد تغلقت دونه الكتب فانها ذات أبواب وما بقي إلا الرجوع إلي صبابة الحاصل التي ابقتها نوب الدهر واستنباط الثمد اذا أعجزو رود البحر ثم أمليت شرح هذه الرسالة عن فكر حامل مسه القرح وشرحت الاانني مقصر وما أطيل الشرح بيد أني لم أعتمد إلا علي نقل خبر صحيح ونسب علي قول صريح ولم أخل ترجمة كل مذكور من فائدة ساره ونادرة داره وأقوال سديدة وأبيات مشيدة.
