تعدّ رواية "أناس في ليل الصيف" من أعظم روايات الكاتب الفلندي "فرانس سيلامبا" وهي سمفونية ليل الصيف حيث تظهر الأصوات والموضوعات وتختفي ناسجة نسيجاً مزداناً بالرسوم والصور كما في السجن، يمكن أن يقال أنه يكشف فيها مجمل نظراته إلى الحياة ونفاذ بصيرته إلى بني البشر على اختلاف مشاربهم الرائعة حسبما تجري بهم قوانين تلك الحياة. ويصور سيلامبا في هذه الرواية أحداث الحياة العظيمة، الولادة والحب والموت، والإحباطات البسيطة والمباهج الصغيرة، وسبر غور أعمق أفكار المصابين بالعصاب والمعقدين عصبياً والشيوخ الضجرين المرهقين والشباب البسطاء والمعقدين والذين يتسمون بالفظاظة والمثقفين، تتفاعل شخصياته المتباينة بنحو متعدد الأشكال وتتواشج في صورة واقعية موحدة متماسكة تحت سماء ليل الصيف المثيرة. وتعبيره بأسلوب رائع عن البيئة البشرية-والطريقة التي يؤدي بها كل فرد دورة الطبيعي الرئيس-وهو دراسة بيئية مناظرة لأشكال أخرى من الطبيعة.
