لا يزال هذا الكتاب الذى ألفه صاحب النظرية النسبية ألبرت أينشتين ، ونشر عامم 1946م ، وأعيد طبعه بلغته الإنجليزية خمس عشرة مرة على الأقل ، وترجم منذ نحو 40 عاما من أفضل الكتب البسيطة عن النظرية النسبية الخاصة والعامة ، وسبب ذلك أن صاحب النظرية يقدم فيه أسسها فى سهولة ويسر ، ويتغلب فى براعة فائقة على تردد المتطبعين بالفيزياء الكلاسيكية فى الانفلات من الهندسة الإقليدية وما يصاحب ذلك من عدم القبول بالجديد.
طورت نتائج النظرية النسبية وتطبيقاتها المعرفة العلمية ، وأوصلت غزو الفضاء وفك الكثير من أسراره ، كما ساعدت على دراسة وتطوير نظرية الجسيمات الأولية والكثير من موضوعات الفيزياء الحديثة ، كما أن التنبؤات التى طرحتها النظرية النسبية فى الثلاثينيات والأربعينيات من القرن الماضى قد تحققت عن طريق العالمين أوبنهايمر وجورج جامو ، وتم الكشف عن ذلك فى النصف الثانى من القرن العشرين.
