إن تصميم وبناء نظم المعلومات المحاسبية وفق الأسس العلمية الحديثة في بناء النظم واستخدام الحاسوب في معالجة المعلومات المحاسبية يعد خطوة ضرورية لعقلنة إنتاج واستهلاك المعلومات في المنظمة.
لقد أثرت هذه البيئة الجديدة في إعداد وتأهيل المحاسب فأصبح المطلوب أن يكون المحاسب اكثر فاعلية في المساهمة في تصميم نظم المعلومات المحاسبية وتقديم المعلومات للمساعدة في اتخاذ القرارات عوضاً عن إضاعة الوقت في تسجيل القيود في اليومية والترحيل إلى دفتر الإستاذ وإعداد ميزان المراجعة والتقارير المالية يدوياً.
إن دراسة نظم المعلومات المحاسبية من قبل المحاسبين ومحللي النظم أصبحت ضرورية، فالمحاسب لم يعد مستخدماً فقط للنظام المحاسبي ومشغلاً له، وإنما قد يتعرض أثناء عمله إلى المشاركة في تطوير النظام المحاسبي، أو أن يتولى تقويم النظاك المستخدم بصفته مراجع حسابات اامعلومات التي يقدمها النظام.
لقد انتشر استخدام الحاسب في تشغيل نظم المعلومات المحاسبية في معظم المنظمات، وأصبحت المعلومات أكثر أهمية وحيوية لإدارة المنظمة، وبذلك أصبحت عملية إدارة البيانات وإعداد التقارير وتقديمها للمستفيدين أكثر تعقيداًوتنوعاً، وأصبح المطلوب من المحاسب أن يحوز على المعرفة والمهارة اللتان تمكنه من تطبيق النظم المحوسبة وأداء المهام الملقاه على عاتقه بكفاءة وفاعلية.
إن نظم المعلومات أصبحت تتغير وتتحسن بشكل سريع نتيجة تطورات هائلة في مجال الإنترنت والتجارة الإلكترونية وشبكات الإتصالات، ومن دون حصول المحاسب على المعرفة والمهارة للتعامل مع نظم المعلومات المحوسبة، يصبح المحاسب غير قادر على الإستفادة من المزايا والفرص التي تقدمها هذه التقنيات.
لهذه الأسباب رأينا أن يكون الطالب قادراً على التعامل مع الأساليب الحديثة في تصميم وتطوير النظم المحاسبية، ونظراص لافتقار المكتبة العربية إلى مراجع في هذا المجال، حاولت عبر هذا الكتاب تقديم الأسس التي يجب أن يتعلمها القارئ لكي يتمكن من المشاركة بشكل فعال في عمليات تصميم ؤتطوير نظم المعلومات المحاسبية.
