أبو القاسم، خَلَف بن فرج، الإلبيريّ، المعروف بالسُّمَيْسِر، هو من شعراء عصر ملوك الطوائف المميّزين. ولا ندري إذا كان قد ترك ديوان شعر مجموعاً، إذ لا يذكر مترجموه ذلك. ولا شكّ في أنّ قسماً كبيراً من شعره قد ضاع، إمّا بفعل الخطوب ومرور الزمن، ما عفّى عليه الكثير من التراث الأندلسي، وإمّا بسبب امتناع أصحاب التصانيف الأدبيّة الذين ذكروه عن إيراد الكثير من شعره، بسبب إقذاعه في الهجاء. وهو من الشعراء الذي تميّزوا بالجرأة على ملوك الطوائف، فرفعوا الصوت منتقدين، وتحمّلو وزر انتقاداتهم.
وقد عمدنا إلى جمع أشعاره من مصادر مختلفة، كان أبرزها: (( الذخيرة في محاسن أهل الجزيرة))، لابن بسّام الشنترينيّ؛ و(( خريدة القصر وجريدة العصر))، للعماد الأصفهانيّ؛ و((نفح الطيب من غصن الأندلس الرطيب))، للمقّريّ؛ و((مسالك الأبصار في مملك الأمصار))، لابن فضل الله العمريّ< فضلاً عن مصادر أخرى متنوعة جعلناها في لائحة مفصّلة قبل إيراد مجموع شعره.
فالهدف، إذاً، من هذا الكتاب هو أنّ نقدّم للقارئ شعر السميسر مجموعاً من مصادره المختلفة، ومبوباً ومشروحاً.
وقد رأينا أن نبتدئ برسم صورة عن عصر الشاعر، عصر ملوك الطوائف، مركّزين على الناحيتين السياسيّة والفكريّة، لما لهما من علاقة وثيقة بالشعر الذي نقدّمه، ولما تلقيانه من أضواء ساطعة على الظروف التي نظم فيها السميسر أشعاره.
ثم عمدنا إلى تناول حياته، مستندين في ذلك إلى ما حفظه لنا المؤرخون وكتّاب التراجم من معلومات – وهي ضئيلة عموماً – وإلى ما استطعنا أن نستخرجه من شعره، كاشفين، في ثنايا الكلام على حياته، الخطوط العريضة التي وسمت شخصيّته، وآراءه في مختلف الشؤون التي عبّر عنها. ثمّ قدّمنا دراسة لشعره، بادئين بالموضوعات التي طرقها، ثم باحثين في خصائص ذلك الشعر المختلفة.
