يشكل عنوان المجموعة "دخان البنفسج" فضاء سيميائيا يتوزع على عناقيد دلالية تختزل القصص العشرين. ويجسد عنوان القصة التي إختارها القاص عنوانا لمجموعته بؤرة دلالية مؤسسة على ثنائية الضحية والجلاد، فإذا كانت شخصية ياسمين الضحية في قصة "دخان الياسمين"، فإن أسرتها والموروث الثقافي هما "الجلاد". ويمثل لفظا الدخان والبنفسج في العنوان ثنائية دلالية حادة، فالدخان دال على الاحتراق والخراب والموت، والبنفسج دال على الرقة والجمال، ومن هاتين الدلالتين المتناقضتين ينسج القاص الآفاق الدلالية للقصص الأخرى، إذ لا يجد القارئ فرقا جوهريا بين ثنائية الضحية والجلاد وثنائيات الضحية (الثائر / المقاوم / الرافض) وهمجية الاحتلال. وثنائية الترف والفقر المدقع. وعطفا على ما تقدم ينساق الكاتب إلى رصد المفارقات والتناقضات في تفاصيل الحياة وخاصة في تجلياتها الوطنية والاجتماعية بهدف التنبيه على خلل بنيوي في تفاصيل الحياة التي ينبغي أن تتغير إلى ما يعزز منظمة القيم العليا التي تحقق الحرية والعدالة.
