يتوجه المصنف بما فتح الله عليه من مسائل في هذا الكتاب إلى من شغلتهم دنياهم عن أخرتهم، ومحبتها عن محبة الله، ليعلموا أنهم إنما بدّلوا لذ ائذهم الروحانية بلذائذ جسدية، وبأنهم أعرضوا بعقولهم الجاهلة عن فهم حقيقة دينهم الذي هو عصمة أمرهم، ودليلهم لغير معادهم ومعاشهم. وقد رتب المصنف المسائل ضمن سبعة أبواب. كان الأول منها في بيان الذنب، والثاني في التوبة، والباب الثالث في العقيدة الصحيحة، والرابع في بيان الكفر. وخصص الباب الخامس لبيان الإسلام، والسادس لبيان الإيمان، والسابع والأخير تفرد لبيان الإحسان.
وقد رتب المصنف المسائل ضمن اثنين وستين مجلساً جاءت في: عدم الاعتراض على الله، الفقر، عدمن تمني الفني، التوبة، سبب حب الله للعبد، نصيحة المؤمن لأخيه، الصبر، المراءاة، ابتلاء المؤمن، عدم التكلف، معرفة الله عز وجل، النهي عن الطلب من غير الله، تقديم الآخرة على الدنيا، النهي عن النفاق، إيثار المؤمن على نفسه، العمل بالقرآن، عدم الاهتمام بالرزق، جهاد النفس والهوى والشيطان، مخافة الله، القول بلا عمل، عدم الالتفاف إلى الخلق، خروج حب الدنيا من القلب، جلاء صداً للقلوب، عدم مشاركة الله في تدبيره، الزهد في الدنيا، عدم الشكوى إلى الخلق، النهي عن الكذب، الحب في الله، عدم التواضع لغني لأجل غناه، الاعتراف بنعم الله عز وجل، الغضب المحمود والمزحوم، أداء الأوامر، واجتناب النواهي، رؤية الله يوم القيامة، النهي عن الكبر، مخافة الله عز وجل، إخلاص العمل لله عيادة المرضية، فضل لا إله إلا الله، حب الأولياء والصالحين، النفقة في الدين، المحبة لله التقوى، النفس الأمارة، الدنيا سجن المؤمن، التمسك بالعروة الوثقى، إتباع الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، بغض الخلق عند الضرر العمل الصالح، إعطاء السائل والكرم، التفرغ من هموم الدنيا، عدم الركون، إلى الدنيا، النظر إلى الناس بعين الفناء، الاختبار والابتلاء، التفكر في الحشر، الرضا بقضاء الله، المراقبة في الله، الصدق العمل مع الإخلاص، عدم المراهن، ترك الإنسان ما لا يعنيه، في خواطر الإنسان، التوحيد
