نبتت فكرة هذا الكتاب مع مطلع التسعينيات، مع الأحداث المؤلمة التي تعرض لها المسلمون.. مع أحداث أوروبا الشرقية وتفكك الإتحاد السوفيتي، ومأسي المسلمين في البوسنة الهرسك والبلقان.. ووجدت مما يبعث الحزن والآسى ان الأكثرية الساحقة من أبناء المسلمين لا تكاد تعرف شيئاً عن تاريخ الشعوب الإسلامية، ولا عن الأوضاع المريرة التي تعيشها هذه الشعوب في دينها وتراثها وحياتها الإجتماعية والإقتصادية، والقهر الذي تعانيه بعد أن نجح الخبثاء من أعداء المة في إلغاء ذاكرتها التاريخية بل وإعدامها وما يزالون؟ّ!
لقد أثبتت الأحداث أن معظم المسلمين كانوا يجهلون حقيقة هذه الشعوب الإسلامية ولم يعرفوها إلا بعد تلك الأزمات، وفي الوقت ذاته يعرفون عن تاريخ وجغرافية أوروبا وأمريكا الكثير والكثير وتخرج هذه الصفحات -إن شاء الله تعالى- في هذا الوقت العصيب الذي تشتعل فيه الحرب في القوقاز، ولا تزال الساحة الدولية تشهد اعتداءات الروس على الشعب الشيشاني المسلم، على أمل أن يكون هذا الجهد المتواضع قد سد ثغرة في المكتبة العربية الإسلامية، والتي تبقى بحاجة ماسة ودائمة لمؤلفات تعرف القارئ بجغرافية الأمة المسلمة وتاريخها.
