زين العابدين بن علي وثب على رئاسة تونس، وخلع بورقيبة، وتولى الرئاسة سنة 1987م، وقد اتبع سياسة تجفيف المنابع واقتلاع الجذور، فعمد لسياسة الحظر الشامل للمعارضة الإسلامية والوطنية، وحتى العلمانية المخالفة له، فأجبر قادتها على الخروج من تونس إلى منافي شتى في كثير من دول العالم. وبسبب هذه السياسات الاستبدادية ارتفعت أعداد التوانسة المهاجرين من تونس، حتى بلغ عددهم بالخارج أكثر من مليون ونصف تونسي، وهو رقم ضخم إذا ما علم أن تعداد الشعب التونسي بأسره حوالي عشرة ملايين تونسي.
ودارت الأيام دورتها، وحق عليه القول، وأذن الله في زوال ملكه، وضياع أمره، فعوقب من جنس ما كان يفعله مع أبناء شعبه وأهله من إجبارهم على الفرار من بلادهم، وها هو يفر هاربًا ولكن بجلده بعد أن ثار الشعب عليه لطغيانه، واستبداده، وفساده لمدة تزيد على عشرين عامًا.. تاركًا قصوره، وكنوزه، وما نهبه هو وأصهاره عبر السنين.. وهو اليوم حزين وحيد مهموم، هجره الجميع وتركوه، تبرءوا منه ومن طغيانه، حتى حيته الرقطاء التي كانت سبب بلائه- ليلى الطرابلسي- تركته، وراحت تتمتع بما قدرت على نهبه، وحمله قبل الفرار..
ذق- زين العابدين- مرارة الطرد من بلدك، وترك وطنك، والتفرق في البلاد.. لقد شرب الطغاة من نفس كأس ظلمهم، وطغيانهم لشعوبهم، وهذا من عجيب صنع الله عز وجل في هؤلاء الطغاة وأشباههم.. فهل من معتبر؟!
