هذا الكتاب أحد "كتب رحلات" أربعة كتبها عبد الغني النابلسي أديب دمشق الصوفي، وكان الهدف من العمل فيه نشره بشكل علمي، مع دراسة تحليلية. بعد أن لفت بعض المستشرقين الأوروبيين -مثل ألفريد فون كريمر ويوهانس جلدما يستر- النظر إلى ما لرحلات النابلسي من قيمة كمصدر لمعرفة البلاد العربية، استيقظ الاهتمام بذلك في البلاد العربية أيضاً.
ورغم أن رحلة المؤلف إلى لبنان موجزة، إذا ما قورنت برحلته إلى الأماكن المقدسة، مكة والمدينة، فانها تستحق الاهتمام لاحتوائها على معلومات قيمة عم لبنان في نهاية القرن السابع عشر، وهي إلى جانب ذلك تعطي صورة لمحيط عالم صوفي ولأفكاره في ذلك الزمن.
