هذه أثارة من كلام العرب، من شعر سراقة بن مرداس البارقي الأصغر، ينشرها لأول مرة في كتاب، الأديب "حسين نصار". ونحن في مسيس الحاجة إلى نشر هذا الديوان، وأمثاله من دواوين العرب وأشعارهم التي لم تطبع، وما أكثرها! لأننا نريد التعمق في درس الأدب العربي على المنهج الأقوم، ولا يكون هذا إلا بإحياء الآثار الباقية ونشرها، وكل محاولة لدراسة الآداب قبل إتمام الكشف عن النصوص والمتون ودرسها وتحليلها، فهي محاولة غير مجدية، لا تؤدي إلى تصور صحيح، أو حكم سليم.
وديوان سراقة البارقي الذي نقدمه لجمهور القراء بهذه الكلمة، على ضآلة حجمه، وقلة أشعاره، هو صفحة من صفحات التاريخ السياسي والأدبي واللغوي، في عصر من أقوى عصور العرب، إبان الحكم الأموي في الشرق، ولذلك يحس فيه القارئ أسرًا وجزالة لفظ، وقوة وفخامة معنى، مما ورثه الشاعر عن جيله، ثم هو صفحة من صفحات العروبة، تلمح فيها آثار البداوة، وعراقة المنشأ والمربى، الذي نشأ فيه الشاعر منذ كان، ذلك إلى مزايا أخرى في فنونه، كالوصف الذي تفوق فيه على كثير من أمثاله.
