يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى تأسيس بديل فكريٍّ معرفيٍّ، يتجاوز ما كرسته السياسات بمختلف مشاربها عبر التاريخ. حيث تتطلع الأمَّة الإسلاميَّة اليوم إلى منظومة معرفية صادقة، تحقق لها مداخل دقيقة لوعي الذات وفهم الآخر، ومن المؤكَّد أنَّ المشاريع التي تحمل رسالة قرآنيَّة توحيديَّة؛ هي من ابرز وسائل هذه المنظومة. وكلُّ عمل يهدف إلى التأثير والتأثُّر، ينبغي ألا يكون إلَّا لبنة في هذا الإطار، فاجتهادُ العلمي في هذا السبيل حريٌّ أن ينقل العقل المسلم إلى مكانته الحضارية التي خلق من اجلها.
حوى الكتاب في شطر منه دراسة " أصول الإيمان" التي عليها تُبنى الوحدة، وبحث كيفية رجوع الأمَّة إليها باعتبارها سبباً للوحدة" ونحن في ذلك نقرُّ بتقليد المذهب في الفروع، لا في الأصول؛ ونعتبر المذهبية دليلاً على سماحة الإسلام، وعلى سعته؛ لا حجَّة على تشتُّت الدين وأهله"، ونفرِّق بين " أصول الدين" الجامعة، و " أصول المذهب" المشروعة. ولقد تضمَّن الكتاب في شطره الثاني " مقالات في تحليل واقع الأمَّة"، وموقفها من أصول إيمانها، من خلال دراسة نماذج من التصرفات والتصورات، وتقديم تصحيح لها، في حدود السجالِ العلميِّ، تحت راية الفكر السمح المنفتح على التداول والحوار. كما تضمن الكتاب "قواعد كليَّة" منهجية في التعامل مع البحث العقديِّ، وحصراً لجملة من " الأخطاء المتعلقة بالمنهج" عند دراسة العقيدة وعلم الكلام، واختتم " بمسرد مفاهيمي " في الموضوع.
