يكتب سطور هذه الطروس: محمد الحسين آلـ كاشف الغطاء فى النجف الأشرف، أوليات جمادى الأولى سنة الخمسين بعد الألف والثلاثمائة هجرية.
والسبب الباعث على كتابتها:
أنه منذ سنتين كتب إلى شاب عراقى من البعثة العلمية التى أرسلتها الحكومة العراقية للتحصيل فى "دار العلوم العليا" بمصر كتاباً مطولاً ومما فيه ما خلاصته:
أنه كان يختلف إلى علماء القاهرة فى الأزهر وغيره وربما جرى الحديث بينهم "والحديث شجون" على ذكر "النجف" وعلمائها وطريقة التحصيل فيها والهجرة إليها، وكانوا يكيلون لهم الكيل الوافى من الثناء والإعجاب بسمو مداركهم وعلوم معارفهم ولكن يردفون ذلك بقولهم: ولكن يا للأسف أنهم شيعة! يقول ذلك الشاب فكن أستغربت ذلك وأقول لهم: وما الشيعة؟ وهل هى إلا مذهب من مذاهب الإسلام وطائفة من طوائف المسلمين.
ولا التشيع من مذاهب الإسلام، بل ولا يحق أن يكون أو بعد مذهباً أو ديناً، وإنما هى طريقة ابتدعها الفرس وقضية سياسية لقلب الدولة الأموية إلى العباسية، ولا مساس لها بالأديان الإلهية أصلاً.
ثم يكتب ذلك الشاب تلو هذا: وأنا يا سيدى شاب مترعرع لا علم لى بمبادئ الأديان وتشعب المذاهب وفلسفة نشئها وأرتقائها، وكيف انتشرت ومن أين ظهرت، وقد دخلنى من أولئك الفخام الجسام المعدودين من الأعلام شك من أمر تلك الطائفة وصرت على شفا ريبة من إسلامهم فضلاً عن سلامتهم، ثم أخذ يتوسل إلى بالوسائل المحرجة أن أكشف لها عن صميم الحقيقة، ولباب الواقع كى يستريح من حرارة الشك إلى برد اليقين وروح الطمأنينة.
