«كان الفراء أرجوانياً» هو العنوان الروائي لـ L’hermine était pourpre العمل الفائز بجائزة الشرطة القضائية الفرنسية التي تحمل اسم مقرها (Quai des Orfevres) حيث منحتها لجنة التحكيم التي يرأسها السيد كريستيان فليش، رئيس الشرطة القضائية الذي أعلن النبأ في تشرين الأول من عام 2011. نقلت الرواية من الفرنسية إلى العربية الدكتورة كيتي سالم.
عندما تكون العدالة أكثر استعداداً لفتح المظلات من فتح أبواب السجون... فقوس المحكمة يمثل جماعة أخوية حيث يمكن لثوب المحاماة أن يخفي أسلحة الثأر وعندئذ يتلطخ بالدماء...
يجمع "رجال الشرطة" وأعوان العدالة دائماً على دفع ثمن طبق لحم العجل الذي تقدمه مدام جورج في مطعمها معلومات، لا نقداً. ألذَ ما يصبو إليه المحققون هي فرصة اللقاء بحورية مثالية تسمى الأستاذة كرم.
من أجواء الرواية نقرأ:
"... كان مونييه، كعادته دائماً، يزن أقل كلمات تصريحه الذي يبدو عفوياً:
بينما كانت الشرطة تصحبه إلى القصر العدلي، ليدلي بإفادته أمام السيد قاضي التحقيق تريكار (من الأفضل ذكر اسمه لتوريطه قليلاً)، فإن جوني وينتر شتاين، الموقوف حينذاك، قد مات بحادث خلال محاولته الفرار. فبعد أن ضرب بعنف رجال الشرطة الذين رافقوه إلى مكتب قاضي التحقيق، استطاع أن يفلت لحظة من مراقبتهم اليقظة وهرب، من نافذة (لا ضرورة لقول أكثر من ذلك عن سوء أجهزة العدالة). وصل الهارب إلى سطح بناية مجاورة، حيث تزحلق قبل أن يقع من علو عشرين متراً. مات على الفور. والشرطة التي كانت تطارده لم تستعمل سلاحها، وسيحدد التحقيق المسؤوليات المفترضة لكل واحد...".
