Par son style, par l’histoire qu’il raconte, ce roman sort de l’ordinaire. Il est à se demander si Jean Salmé n’a pas inventer un nouveau genre littéraire qui serait celui de la narration des choses de la vie sur fond dramatique.
l’histoire en effet est des plus banales, la description des personnages nous amuse plus qu’elle ne nous intéresse. Mais, emportés par un style à la fois simple et savoueux, nous viola pris dans un suspens que nous appréhendons mais dont nous sommes à mille lieues de decouvrir le denouement. Car dans cette apparent succession de fait divers, l’auteur par petite touches, tout comme un peintre pour son œuvre, nous fait part de ses doutes, de ses interrogations, sur un ton où la naïveté le dispute à la lucidité. Le Moi est certes haïssable, et cependant ce récit, construit de bout en bout à la premiére personne, nous fait entrer dans un inivers de totale universalité tant les reactions du personnage principal, l’auteur en l’occurrence, deviennent très vite les nôtres.
