يعد كتاب "السراج المنير في بيان نكات التفسير" من كتب التفسير للقرآن الكريم، ولكن من وجهة نظر تربوية وأخلاقية، إذ حاول مؤلفه الشيخ "حبيب الكاظمي" أن يسوق المتأمل فيه إلى عالم التزكية والتهذيب الذي من أجله أُنزل الكتاب الكريم.
في ضوء هذا المفهوم يقوم المؤلف بتقطيع السورة إلى مجموعة من الآيات المتجانسة من جهة الموضوع والسياق، وإستخراج النكات التفسيرية على شكل نقاط محددة، تركيزاً لمضمون التفسير في نفس القارئ، وتسهيلاً له للتأمل في كل نقطة، حتى لو تسنّى لو وقت يسير في القراءة والتدبر، ليصدق عليه أخيراً أنه المتدبر في القرآن الكريم، والمستفيد من آياته في حركته إلى الله تعالى.
ومن هنا، كانت النكات التفسيرية في بعض الموارد، أشبه إلى الإستفادة من الآية، بدلاً من إستنطاق مفهومها الجامد في التفسير، وبذلك يقترب المؤلف من أصل الهدف من هذا التفسير "ألا وهو تحويل (المعلوم) المستفاد من الآية إلى (المعمول) به في ساحة الحياة، وهذا المعنى ممكن بمجرد الإنتهاء من التأمل، من الفقرة التفسيرية في ذيل كل آية في هذا الكتاب".
وبناءً على ما تقدم، يختص الكتاب بتفسير سور الجزء الثلاثين من القرآن الكريم.
