يأتي إهتمامنا بترجمة الكتاب نتيجة الإحساس بالحاجة إلى معرفة واضحة بنظرية المنهج وفلسفته، ولقد لوحظ أن هناك ترجمات لكتب يغلب عليها طابع العمومية، ويضم هذا الكتاب ثمانية فصول تتناول على التوالي في الفصل الأول تقديم منظور لنظرية المنهج، مع عرض لبعض المفاهيم المتصلة بها، ويليه في الفصل الثاني بناء النظرية ووظائفها، وكيفية تكوين النظرية الفرعية في المنهج، ويستعرض الفصل الثالث النظرية في التربية، مع مناقشة المدخلات المرتبطة بالنظرية التربوية، ثم يعالج الفصل الرابع نظرية المنهج وتعريفات محتوى النظرية ثم ينتهي الفصل بعرض قضايا تعميم المنهج وهندسته، مع عرض القضايا والقوانين المرتبطة ببناء النظرية، ويستعرض الفصل الخامس القيم في نظرية المنهج، حيث يبدأ الفصل بتفسيرات القيمة وعلاقة القيم بالمنهج والمحتوى، ثم يركز الفصل السادس على قضية تعميم المنهج وتعريفات التعميم، مع إبراز علاقته بالتعليم المدرسي، ثم نقد لتعميم المنهج، كما يتناول الفصل السابع هندسة المنهج ومجالاتها، وينتهي الفصل بتقويم المنهج - كمجال للدراسة - فيحتل الفصل الثامن من الكتاب عن طريق فحص ما كتب في هذا الميدان، ويعرض المجالات المنظمة للمعرفة والتي تشكل مؤشراً عاماً لمجال المنهج، ثم ينتهي الكتاب بفصل عن تطوير المنهج ووضع التراكيب التعريضية والتعريفية الوصفية، وكذا التنبؤية.
