لماذا هذا الارتباط الموهوم بين الدين والإرهاب؟ وهل في الدين أسمى من دم الإنسان؟ وهل يتيح الإسلام لأتباعه قتل من يخالفهم؟ إننا نستغرب حقا من أولئك الذين يميلون إلى الخيار العنفي والتصفوي مع الآخر ويتحججون بالدين لقتل الناس ومصادرة أعمارهم، ويعلو الرصاص فوق النصوص، وتستباح حرمة وأمن مجتمعات بغير ذنب، ويقتل أبرياء في جهاد موهوم مزعوم، إننا نذكر هؤلاء بسيرة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم، فكل غزواته في السنوات التسع لم تزد شهداء المسلمين وقتلى المشركين عن ثلاثمائة وست وثمانين. إن القلق الذي يساور الكثير من المجتمعات العربية والإسلامية اليوم بات مصدره التطرف وهذه المشكلة الخطيرة والمتفاقمة لا تحل بالحلول الأمنية التي تزيد النار اشتعالاً والأحقاد اتقادًا. نحن بحاجة إلى عودة حميدة لبعضنا، وأن نكف عن أوهامنا أننا أعداء لبعضنا، وأن من فوق عدوه من تحت، وأن من تحت فليتربص بمن فوق، لابد من إجهاض هذه الولادات الفكرية التي تريد أن تتكاثر بيننا بشكل جرثومي قاتل. إن الله يحب الكلمة الرحيمة واسمه الرحيم، ويحب العدل واسمه العدل، ومحمدنا رحمة مهداة وليس قاصد قتل وتنكيل، فلنشع بيننا أخلاق الله ورسوله في الحب والحوار والتناصح وكف الأذى وكتم الغضب، ولنتصالح فالصلح خير، ولنشع في مجتمعاتنا مفاهيم الكرامة والعدل والحرية والحقوق والواجبات، وبغير هذا فلن يكون للإرهاب حد ولا نهاية.
