"بستان الراغبين" كتاب يندرج في سياق ما عرف في التراث العربي الإسلامي بالأدب الجنسي، أو "أدب النكاح" وفقاً لتسمية الفقهاء ورجال، ومادته تتوزع بين مقدمة موجزة، وسبع حكايات تشكل مادة المؤلف الأساسية، في حين يخلص بعد حكاياته تلك إلى فصول وجيزة، تدور حول موضوعه الرئيسي، كنوادر قصيرة، وذكر محاسن النساء ومساوئهن، وسبب وأد البنات في الجاهلية، وذم الخمرة والدخان.
ثم يخصص فصلاً للأحاديث النبوية التي تنهى عن الزنا وتذكر عواقبه، أما الفصل الأخير فمجموعة من التراكيب العشبية، لمعالجة عدد من الأمراض والمشاكل الجنسية، وكالعجز، وصغر العضو التناسلي وغيرها.
والكتاب في بنيته وتصميمه العام قريب ومتأثر بكتاب رجوع الشيخ إلى صباه، والمؤلف لا يخفي تأثره وإعجابه به، فقد عمد إلى اختصار أبرز مواضيع هذا الكتاب، لا سيما منها الحكايات، في كتاب أسماه كتاب اللذات ومجمع الشهوات، ووضعه بهامش كتاب بستان الراغبين.
