ولد فقيد التربية والدعوة - رحمه الله - في حي قاضي عسكر بمدينة حلب سنة 1928م في أسرة متدينة معروفة بالتقى والصلاح ونسبها الطاهر، حيث يرجع نسب عائلة الشيخ إلى علي زين العابدين بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب. تربى في ظل والده الصالح الشيخ سعيد علوان وكان الناس في حلب وغيرها يقصدون الشيخ سعيدًا طلباً للتداوي فقد كان طبيبًًا وصيدليًا يداوي الناس بالأعشاب والمراهم، وكان لسانه لا يهدأ عن ذكر الله وقراءة ال ولد فقيد التربية والدعوة - رحمه الله - في حي قاضي عسكر بمدينة حلب سنة 1928م في أسرة متدينة معروفة بالتقى والصلاح ونسبها الطاهر، حيث يرجع نسب عائلة الشيخ إلى علي زين العابدين بن الحسين بن علي بن أبي طالب. تربى في ظل والده الصالح الشيخ سعيد علوان وكان الناس في حلب وغيرها يقصدون الشيخ سعيدًا طلباً للتداوي فقد كان طبيبًًا وصيدليًا يداوي الناس بالأعشاب والمراهم، وكان لسانه لا يهدأ عن ذكر الله وقراءة القرآن، وكان يدعو ربه أن يجعل من أبنائه العالم الحكيم والطبيب المسلم، وقد أجاب الله دعاءه.
عندما انتهى فقيدنا من المرحلة الابتدائية وجهه والده عام 1943م إلى دراسة العلم الشرعي في الثانوية الشرعية وكانت تعرف في ذلك الوقت بـ(الخسروية) نسبة إلى بانيها خسرو باشا، وكان يقوم بالتدريس في تلك المدرسة علماء قل نظيرهم في ذلك الزمن علماء وهبوا حياتهم للعلم وأخلصوا في عملهم ومنهم: راغب الطباخ، أحمد الشماع، عبدالرحمن زين العابدين، ناجي أبو صالح، نجيب خياطة، عبد الله حماد، سعيد الإدلبي، أحمد عز الدين البيانوني، عيسى البيانوني. وكان أساتذة المدرسة يعاملون طلابهم كأبناء وإخوة لهم. وقد تأثر عبد الله ناصح علوان بالشيخ راغب الطباخ، وكان علامة مؤرخاً كتب تاريخ مدينة حلب، وتأثر - أيضاً - بالدكتور الشيخ مصطفى السباعي - رحمه الله - وكان يتخذه نموذجًا وقدوة.
انتسب فقيدنا إلى جماعة الإخوان المسلمين في بداية شبابه وعرف بين زملائه في المدرسة بالجرأة في الحق والشجاعة في مواجهة الأحداث. وبدت الشخصية القيادية في تصرفاته، وعرف في المدرسة بالخطابة والقلم المعبر عن أحاسيس المسلمين، وكان بيته في حلب منتدى ومجمعاً لأصدقائه ولأساتذته، وكان الكرم يشمل الجميع من والد الفقيد.
نال شهادة الثانوية الشرعية في سنة 1949 وبتوجيه من والده سافر إلى مصر لاستكمال تحصيله في علوم الشريعة الإسلامية. شارك في الأزهر ونال شهادة كلية أصول الدين سنة 1952، ثم نال الماجستير سنة 1954، وفي مصر كان له نشاط إسلامي واسع وزيارات متبادلة مع كبار رجال الدعوة الإسلامية وحين نزل البلاء بالإسلاميين في مصر سنة 1954 ووقعت المحنة أصاب الأذى فقيدنا، فاعتقل، وكان قد بقي له عدة مواد حتى يؤديها ويتخرج من الجامعة، فكان يؤتى به إلى الاختبار مقيد اليدين وحين انتهت الاختبارات اقتيد إلى الطائرة لتنقله إلى وطنه، ولم تسمح له حكومة مصر حينذاك أن يكمل دراسته العليا ويحصل على شهادة الدكتوراه. وقد حصل الشيخ - رحمه الله - على شهادة الدكتوراه بعد مدة من جامعة السند في باكستان.

This book represnts a concise review of Islam’s viewpoint toward freedom of belief. My book Qissat Al-Hidayah (Story of Guidance) deals with useful lectures and important studies. The readers will find these lectures and treatises in their proper place in the story. Among these lectures which were given in their proper place in the story was Huriyat Al-Itiqad fi ash-shari’at Al-Islamiyah (freedom of belief in Islamic law), which was delivered by sheikh Sa’eed. The reader wil find in the lecture that Islam does not force anyone to embrace it and that it gives non-Muslims more respectful and just rightsthan other laws or constitutions. Also, it struggles against apostates, atheists, and hypocritesand lays strict laws without mercy with regard to them.
