يتناول هذا الكتاب عملية "التحول الديمقراطي" في روسيا عبر عشرين عاما تقريبا منذ انهيار الاتحاد السوفيتي السابق، للكشف عن الخطوات والعمليات التي جرت حتى وصلت روسيا بنظامها السياسي إلى نموذج "الديمقراطية الموجهة" المعتمد على الحكم الفردي أو شبه الفردي، يبدأ الكتاب بعرض لمفهوم "الديمقراطية الموجهة" كما يُلقي نظرة عامة على التحول الديمقراطي في الفضاء السوفيتي السابق، والنتائج التي تمخض عنها، ثم يتطرق إلى الخطوات التي أقدم عليها الرئيس الروسي الأسبق بوريس يلتسين لغرس بذور هذا النموذج، كاشفا أيضا، عن الخطوات والإجراءات التي اتبعها فلاديمير بوتين لترسيخه، من خلال تقوية السلطة المركزية وسلطته الشخصية إلى استعادة عرش الكرملين من جديد في 2012، وفي النهاية يتعرض الكتاب إلى عودة بوتين إلى الكرملين في مرآة الربيع العربي، والسيناريوهات المحتملة لمستقبل النظام السياسي في روسيا.
