يعد كتاب " تيم اندرسون " ، المعنون بـ " الحرب القذرة على سورية : واشنطن - تغيير النظام والمقاومة " ، والصادر عن مركز غلوبال ريسيرتش في كندا في عام 2016 ، من بين الكتب القليلة والمهمة التي تقدم قراءة محايدة للأحداث في سورية من حيث تركيزه على الديناميات الداخلية والخارجية للأزمة .
يقع الكتاب في مقدمة وثلاثة عشر فصلاً ، نقرأ فيها عن الحرب في سورية وعليها ، حيث يقدم أندرسون الأزمة السورية ضمن سياق قراءة تفكيكية ، يعيد فيها إنتاج النص الأساس ، والنص هنا ، هو " الرواية السورية " ، التي ظلت على مدى سنوات رهينة التجاذبات السياسية ، ما افضى لغياب الدليل الموضوعي ، والحس النقدي المستقل الذي يترفع فوق التجزب والمصالح الذاتية .
وعن رأيه في الحرب السورية يقول تيم أندرسون " ... يتوهم الكثيرون ، حتى الآن ، أن الصراع السوري ، " حرب أهلية " ، أو ربما " ثورة شعبية " ، أو شكل من أشكال ( الصراع الطائفي الداخلي ) . كانت هذه المزاعم ، في كثير من الوجوه مفتعلة أساساً من القوى الكبرى ، التي قادت سلسلة من عمليات " تغيير الأنظمة في منطقة الشرق الأوسط بُنيت جميعها على ذرائع كاذبة ، على مدى السنوات الخمس عشرة الماضية ، يمكن أن أعد هذا الكتاب عملاً أكاديمياً موضوعياً ، لكنه أيضاً دفاع قوي عن حق الشعب السوري في تقرير مصير مجتمعه ونظامه السياسي ... " .
اعتمد المؤلف في تأليف هذا الكتاب على مئات الكتب والمقالات ، ومشاهدة العديد العديد من أشرطة الفيديو ، والتحدث إلى أكبر عدد ممكن من السوريين ، كما أنه كتب العديد من المقالات حول الموضوع ، وزار سورية مرتين في أثناء الصراع . وهذا الكتاب يمثل خلاصة تلك الأبحاث .
