حظيت الأوقاف في الإسلام باهتمام بالغ، وتعددت الدراسات والبحوث التي أكدت أهمية الأوقاف في معظم أقاليم الدولة العربية الإسلامية، ومن هنا وقع اختيارنا للبحث في موضوع: (المشيّدات الوقفية العمرانية في مصر خلال عصر المماليك:800-923هـ/1397-1517م، دراسة تاريخية): مستخدمين فيه (قدر الإمكان) منهج التتبع التاريخي الذي يغلب عليه الجانب الشرحي (الوصفي)، هذا المنهج: يبتغي تحقيق جملة من الأهداف والمقاصد العامة والخاصة. فالدراسة في مجال الأهداف العامة: تنحصر في جانبين أساسيين، الأول منهما:يمت بصلة إلى التكوين والتنوع الثقافي والروحي للمجتمع لكون أن العامل الديني مصدر تأثير يسهم في فهم حركة الحياة عامة، والجانب الحضاري السياسي ، وفي الجوانب الحياتية كافة ومن أبرزها التوجه والبحث الأكاديمي في البحوث والدراسات، وفي تأليف الكتب والمناهج في المؤسسات والمشيدات الأكاديمية وخارجها بشكل عام.أما فيما يخص الجانب الثاني: فالمراد من دراسة التاريخ الحضاري الإسلامي بكل ما فيه من تداعيات تربط المسلمين بماضيهم المضيء ليساعدهم في استدراك مواقفهم (العسيرة)، والسير بخطى أجدادنا الذين تقدمونا وسبقونا في مجالات التفكير والتأليف والإنجاز الفني والفكري والعلمي والعمراني والإنساني
