جاء هذا الكتاب - المذكرات - بمثابة رؤية توثيقية تحمل روح كاتبها وعصره ونظرته إلى الأمور في ذلك الزمان، إلا أنه أيضا وثيقة من جملة وثائق عن أحوال الكويت قبل النفط. وتطور الكويت، يرويه شاهد عيان، ولكن، بمقياس غربي، أو بالأخرى من وجهة نظر غربية لما كان يدور في مجتمعات الخليج في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين ... فهو رصد لتجربة التبشير في الجزيرة والخليج - ومردوداتها الإجتماعية، إذ يتضمن عددا من المقالات القيمة عن مجتمعات الخليج وشرقي الجزيرة العربية وشرح مهم للظروف الإجتماعية وطرائق معيشة هذه المجتمعات وسبل حصولها على الرزق، ومن بينها دور الإرساليات في تلك المنطقة.
