تلك التجربة الرائعة هي محور هذا الكتاب الذي يحاول أن ينقل لقارئ العربية بعضاً مما يحدث على الجانب الآخر من المحيط الهندي من نقلات هائلة يذكرها الحاضر باحترام وسيذكرها التاريخ أيضاً بكل التقدير، ويضيف إلى ما اعتاد القارئ العربي أن يراه في مقالات وموضوعات متفرقة عن جنوب شرق آسيا والنمور الآسيوية والمؤشرات الاقتصادية الباهرة، إلى غير ذلك من مواد تختزل الواقع وتقع تارة في مصيدة الانبهار التام بتجربة شعوب تبدوا كما لو كانوا من أهل الخوارق يحولون التراب تبرا والصخر ماساً، لا يخطئون ولا ينسون، وهو ما ليس صحيحاً، وتارة أخرى تبسط التجربة وتسطحها ولا تصل إلى السبب الأساسي الكامن وراء تقدم شعوب ودول بعيدة عنا في أقصى الطرف الجنوبي الشرقي لأسيا، وهي شعوب لو علمنا أقرب من نقتدي به ونأخذ عنه ربما أكثر من أية دول أخرى.
