يدرس هذا البحث تاريخ العمارة في قرطبة وضواحيها خلال القرن الرابع الهجري العاشر الميلادي، مركزاً على العمائر والأبنية الإسلامية حصراً في إقليم قرطبة، في محاولة لدراسة أحد الجوانب المشرقة في تراثنا العربي الإسلامي العريق في الأندلس.
وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة العوامل المحركة للنشاط العمراني إبان القرن الرابع الهجري، للوقوف على الأرضية المناسبة لنجاح وتطور الحركة العمرانية.
وزيادة على ذلك يرمي البحث إلى معرفة مجمل النشاط العمراني السابق لمدة البحث وما جرى عليه من تحديث وتطور خلال مدة الدراسة، ثم تناول أهم المستجدات والمستحدثات العمرانية التي حصلت في عصر الخلافة الأموية بشكل تفصيلي منذ بداية هذا العصر في مطلع القرن الرابع الهجري وحتى نهاية الدولة العامرية سنة (399هـ / 1008م).
