يتكون هذا الكتاب من خمسة فصول يمهد الفصل الأول منها لطبيعة المشكلة قيد البحث ولمغزاه ولفرضيته ولأهميته وللحدود التي يقف عندها وكذلك الأسلوب الذي اتبع في الكتاب.
أما الفصل الثاني فيعرض الطرق التي اتبعتها المدارس اللغوية الثلاثة: التقليدية والبنيوية والتحويلية في دراسة الصفات في اللغة الانجليزية، حيث يعرض الجزء الأول من الفصل تصنيف وتعريف وتحليل الصفات حسب كل مدرسة من هذه المدارس، فهو محاولة لكشف وجهات النظر المختلفة لهذه المدارس بكل ما يتعلق بالصفات، أما الجزء الثاني من الفصل فينتقل ليكون انتقائياً حيث يعرض الملامح التركيبية والدلالية للصفات بصورة عامة.
ويعنى الفصل الثالث بالعلاقات التركيبية والدلالية وكذلك الشكلية بين الصفات وأقسام الكلام الأخرى وهي الأسماء والأفعال والظروف بأسلوب انتقائي.
أما الفصل الرابع فقد خصص لتحليل الأخطاء التي ظهرت عند اجراء الاختبار على خمسين طالباً عراقياً للتحقق من صحة فرضية الباحثة بوجود بعض الصعوبات التي تواجه الطلبة عند تعلمهم صيغ المقارنة والتفضيل عند ورودها بشكل متسلسل، حيث يبين الفصل وصفاً للاختبار واكتشاف أنواع الأخطاء التي يقع فيها الطلبة وتحليلها وتبويبها بغية ايجاد الأسباب التي تكمن ورائها.
أما الفصل الخامس فيتضمن خلاصة البحث والنتائج التي توصلت إليها الباحثة ووضع بعض التوصيات الهادفة إلى التغلب على الصعوبات التي تواجه الطلبة في هذا الخصوص.
