عندما احتلت "إسرائيل" الضفة الغربية في الخامس من حزيران 1967 أسس مطران القدس إيلاريون كبوجي أول خلية فدائية في المدينة المقدسة، جاعلاً من عباءته الكهنوتية درعاً لمقاومة سلطات الإحتلال.
وتحوّل راعي الأبرشية إلى همزة وصلٍ سرّية بين المقاومين في الداخل وقيادتهم في الخارج، فراح ينقل من الخارج كل ما يحتاج إليه الداخل، متسلّحاً بإيمانه، وشجاعته، وحصانته الدبلوماسية.
وطوال ست سنوات استمرت رحلاته المكوكية بين لبنان وفلسطين غير عابئ بالخطر على حياته، مزدرياً الإسرائيليين الذين اعتقلوه في 18 آب 1974، وضبطوا كمية من الأسلحة والمتفجرات في سيارته.
وبعد إستجواب طويل، ومحاكمة مضنية، حُكِم عليه بالسجن 12 سنة، قضى منها أربع سنوات في سجون الإحتلال، ذاق خلالها مرّ العذاب، وظلم القهر، وجور السجّان الطاغية، فكاد يلفظ أنفاسه على أرض زنزانة نتِنة لولا تدخُل الفاتيكان لإطلاق سراحه...
يجمع هذا الكتاب ذكريات مطران القدس إيلاريون كبوجي، ومواقفه السياسية، ويستعرض مراحل من حياته، وحقبات نضاله في سبيل القضية الفلسطينية، ويوثّق ظروف إعتقاله ومحاكمته ورحلة عذابه الشاقة في داخل سجنه... كما رواها للكاتبين أنطوان فرنسيس وسركيس أبو زيد، وسجّلها بوصته في منفاه في روما عام 1979، معزّزة بمجموعة من الرسائل والمعلومات والشهادات والصور.
