يأتي هذا الكتاب، وفقاً لمؤلفه - كحلقة ثانية في مادة التجويد، بعد الكتاب الأول "الوجيز في التجويد" حيث تميز الوجيز بالسهولة، وبالدروس الأولية للمادة، التي تدرس (لطلاب المرحلة الثانية)، وليكون كتاب (الوسيط في التجويد) مكملاً للكتاب الأول وممهداً لأبحاث معمقة في هذا العلم، والغاية أن يصبح الطالب مؤهلاً من دون الحاجة إلى أستاذ. أما الغاية الهائية للكتاب فهي التأكيد على وجوب تطبيق القواعد التجويدية وعدم إبقائها في الإطار النظري. لذلك كان هذا الكتاب بدروسه الخمسة عشرة وما يرافقها من أسئلة وتمارين من أفضل ما يمكّن الطالب في علم التجويد ومبادئه وأحكامه الأساسية.
من عناوين الكتاب نذكر: أحكام تجويدية متنوعة، حكم لفظ الجلالة، حكم الراء، حكم الميم والنون المشددتين، حكم اللام في الفعل والإسم والحرف، حكم همزة الوصل، السكتات في القرآن الكريم، أحكام الإستعاذة والبسملة، علامات الوقف ومصطلحات الضبط (...) وأحكام أخرى ذات صلة.
