سئل بروميثيوس عن الدواء الذي وهبه للبشر بعد أن منع عنهم لعنة “التنبؤ بمصرعهم” فأجاب بأنه أعطاهم “الآمال الخادعة”. هذا حسب إيسكيلوس كيف كان تعامل المخلص مع تلك المخلوقات الضعيفة المضطهدة من طرف كبير الآلهة، وهذا كيف كان تصور هؤلاء البشر لذلك المخلص الرحيم، الذي آل على نفسه العقوبة التي ليس في وسع أحد احتمالها إلا إله مثله لا لشيء سوى رأفة منه بالبشر ولإشاعة العدل وإغداق تعزية وقدرة على مواجهة ما يعترض حيواتهم من مصائب ومصائر تنوء بهم أبد الدهر. وهو ما يبين أيضا ذلك التعلق والتشبث بفكرة المخلص والحاجة التي كان يجدها الأولون والمحدثون أيضا لأن ينتشلوا من براثن كل ما كان يعد منغصا وخانقا لكل نفس حياة تنتمي إلى كل فرد.
