إذا كنت من عشاق روايات الرعب والأشباح فإليك برواية "دورة اللولب" للأديب الأمريكى هنرى جيمس، والتي تعتبر من أشد قصص الأشباح عمقاً وامتلاكاً للشعور، وقد صدرت ترجمة هذه الرواية للعربية لأول مرة عن مكتبة الانجلو المصرية بالاشتراك مع مؤسسة فرانكلين للطباعة والنشر، واشترك كل من الروائي ثروت أباظة والشاعر عبد الله البشير فى ترجمتها فى منتصف القرن الماضى.
نشرت الرواية لأول مرة في 1898. وراوية القصة مربية شابة أرسلت إلى بيت في الريف، يدعى بيت بلاي، لكي تعنى بطفلين يتيمين. لقد استأجرها عمهما وهو رجل وسيم تشعر بانجذاب إليه، على أساس أن تتولى مسئولية الأطفال والبيت كاملة. وهناك تجد بيتًا مبهجا مريحا ومدبرة بيت مريحة على حين تجد الطفلين جميلين وساحرين على نحو غير معهود. لكنها سرعان ما تبدأ في الشعور بحضور شرٍّ حادٍّ، وترى شكل الوصيف والمربية. والحق أنهما ماتا كليهما. ويتناهى إليها أنه كان ثمة علاقة آثمة بينهما.
وفي حالة المربية الشابة فإن هذه الأطياف تبعث شرا مخيفا وتقنعها بأن الطفلين، وإن أنكرا ذلك، على اتصال بتلك الأطياف.
تنويه: صدرت الرواية في طبعة جديدة بالترجمة نفسها مؤخرا عن المركز القومي للترجمة بالقاهرة ضمن سلسلة "تراث الترجمة".
