وتحديد الطبيعة القانونية لعقد الاحتراف، يستوجب منا التعرف على عقد الاحتراف ذاته، وذلك من خلال التعرف على الجذور التاريخية لنظام الاحتراف، الذي من شأنه أن يساعد على توسيع دائرة الضوء حول هذا العقد، ويوضح رؤيتنا لحقيقة مراحل تطوره عبر العصور، ومن ثم نستطيع وضع تعريف لهذا العقد، لذا رأينا أن نعرض، من خلال فصل تمهيدي للتعريف بعقد الاحتراف.
