الاجتزاء ظاهرة لغوية لها ما يناظرها اذ ترتبط بظاهرة الحذف فى العربية فالعرب يقولون لا ادر بدل لا ادرى ولم ابل بدل لم ابال ولم يك بدل لم يكن ويختصرون سوف افعل الى سأفعل او سوف افعل او سوف افعل ويجتزاون من الذين بالذى وربما اجتزاوا من الذى باللذ ، وربما اجتزاوا بال فقط فليس الاجتزاء قاصرا على حروف المد وان كان لحروف المد النصيب الاوفى ولذا اختص الاجتزاء عنها بهاذ المصطلح . والاجتزاء والاشباع متناظران وذلك لانهما وان كان كل منهما عكس الاخر الا انهما يشتركان فى كونهما يختصان بأصوات المد والفارق بينهما هو زمن الصوت فان طال صارت الضمة واوا والكسرة ياء والفتحة الفا وسمى اشباعا وان قصر صارت الواو ضمه والياء كسر والالف فتحة وسمى اجتزاء وقد افردنا كلا منهما ببحث مستقل احدهما هذا البحث املين ان نوفق فى استجلاء هذه الظاهرة من خلال دراسة شواهدها ونظائرها وعللها . ونحن فى هذا البحث نعالج ظاهرة لغوية استقر الدرس النحوى بدءا من سيبويه على الحكم بكونها ضرورة او نادرا بل قبيحة احيانا ولابد من مكابدة المشاق حتى يمكن القول ان سيبويه واكثر النحاة قد اخطاوا فى مسالة ما فى هذا العالم الذى يقال انه نضج حتى احترق ولكن لا قداسة فى العالم لاحد ، ولا حجة الا للدليل . ودلالة الشاهد الفذ تختلف عن الجمع الكثير .
