يقدم ناظم متن القصيدة الأمير محمد بن عبد الله بن حمزة سجلاً لقبائل العرب العدنانية وذكر فروعها في سبيل الإفتخار.
أبرز أسبابها بروز العصبية القحطانية والعدنانية بشكل لافت والتي تداخلت فيها الصراعات السياسية منذ وقت مبكر، إضافة إلى ضعف الحكومات الداعمة للإستقرار وضبط الأمن.
اهتم النسابون بمتن هذه القصيدة وأخذوا في شرحها وفق إجتهاداتهم، فتعدَّد الشرّاح من داخل الجزيرة العربية وغيرها، ومنهم من أضاف لها شواهد جغرافية من حيث المواضع والأماكن.
وقع الشرّاح في شيء من الأخطاء فلم يفرقوا بين أماكن القبائل المستقرة في الحواضر السكانية، وبين القبائل المرتحلة حول مواقع القطر والطرق الرئيسة مما نتج عنه خلط بينهما.
عنى بالحصول على هذه القصيدة متناً وشرحاً عدد من علماء نجد فنسخوها وأضافوا عليها في مدوناتهم مما كوّن لديهم مصادر جديدة لخريطة القبائل العدنانية في الجزيرة العربية.
