The Story of a village is an attempt to record an important sector of the life of the Egyptian countryside which was about to be forgotten. It was about to be deleted from the national memory. It is an attempt to preserve from extinction the old life style of the inhabitants of Meet Habiba, an Egyptian village. The Story of a Village is, thus, a novel that chronicles for an important period in the rural life of the Egyptian countryside. It portrays some sides of the life of the inhabitants of Meet Habiba, an imaginary name for a real village located in the Delta region on the eastern branch of the River Nile. It portrays the sufferings and the sorrows of the meek, the weak the forgotten and the downtrodden inhabitants of that village. It chronicles for a period of time from the mid Fifties upto the early Eighties of the Twentieth century.
